Ladakh, Leh

Ladakh is located in the Himalayas of northern India at an altitude of approximately 3,000 to 7,000 meters. After several political regimes in history, India gained control of Ladakh in 1947. In 1979, Ladakh was divided into two administrative districts, Cargill and Leh, and Leh was the capital of Ladakh.

Jamyang school

service school

In 2008, Dalai Lama accepted the local villagers'  petition and assigned two Geshes ----Geshe Lobsang Samten and Geshe Tsultrim Tharchin to establish the boarding school Jamyang School in Leh. The school provides the economically disadvantaged children in remote areas with free education. "Jamyang" stands for "wisdom" in the Tibetan Buddhist scriptures. The name implies  that the education is a starting point to preserve the traditional culture and Buddhist beliefs of Ladakh. It also implies a meaning that the students will become the power to benefit the whole society in the future.
